Practical materials

Practical materials – have the function of developing the capability for everyday life – helping oneself. With the help of them, children develop graphomotorics (activities which are an introduction to writing and reading). Each exercise is carried out up–down left–right.

  1. Tightening and loosening bolts (the aim of this exercise is coordination of hands, eye-hand coordination, precision, comparing and measuring).

  2. Stringing beads (Aim: exercising fingers for writing, movement of wrists, coordination of movement, and a feeling for patterns).

  3. Frames for dressing – there are twelve of these, and each has the aim of the child learning the skill of buttoning, unbuttoning frames, so that he/she can later learn to do that on him/herself. (Aim: self-help, self-sufficiency, independence, concentration, precision, coordination of movement, exercise of fine motor skills, patience, exercising three fingers for writing, preparation for dressing and undressing).

  4. Cleaning shoes (Aim: motor coordination, exercise of muscles, development of wrists, logical order of activities, development of awareness of cleanliness).
  5. Moving conkers (Aim: development of three fingers, hand-eye coordination, concentration, order).
