Principles of activities

Forming groups in a Montessori kindergarten

  • Montessori groups are constituted with as much variety as possible
  • Every child in the group is of a different age, and demonstrates different levels of development
  • Different ages in the group enable variety in development and social contact
  • Older children spontaneously help younger ones
  • Younger children watch the activity of the older children and try to copy them
  • Younger children look for protection in older children
  • Older children take responsibility

Organised forms of learning

  • Discussion circles
  • Individual work with materials
  • Teaching children in small groups
  • Play in silence – cultivation of movement
